Candle Care Guide

Our candles are hand-poured in small batches in Wicklow using 100% natural wax — soy for the jar and pillar candles, a coconut and rapeseed blend for the tea lights and wax melts. They are made to burn well and last. A little care goes a long way.

MAMO cannot be held responsible for injury, damage, or loss resulting from improper use. Please burn responsibly.

The Basics — Every Candle

Trim the wick to 5mm before every burn. This is the single most important thing you can do — a long wick means a bigger flame, faster burn, and an uneven melt pool.

Never burn for more than four hours at a time. Let the candle cool completely before relighting. Always burn on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Never move a candle while it is lit. Keep away from draughts, children, and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Stop burning when 5mm of wax remains at the base.

Extinguish with a snuffer or wick dipper — not by blowing. Blowing scatters hot wax and fills the room with smoke. Wick trimmers, snuffers, and wick dippers are available in our accessories range.

Jar Candles

The first burn matters most. Let the wax melt all the way to the edges before extinguishing — around three to four hours. Cut the first burn short and the candle will tunnel and never fully recover.

Soy wax can develop a textured or frosted surface as it cools. This is normal and does not affect the scent or burn.

Pillar Candles

Always place on a stable, heat-resistant tray. Burn for one hour only, then extinguish and allow the wax to cool and harden fully before relighting. Never leave unattended and keep away from draughts and open windows.

Wax Melts

Place one or two pieces in a wax burner and allow the heat to release the fragrance slowly. The scent evaporates over time — the wax itself remains. When the fragrance fades, it is time to change the melt. Each piece releases fragrance for approximately ten to twelve hours. Burners get hot — never touch or move one while in use.

After Your Candle Is Finished

Pour boiling water into the jar, let it cool, and the wax will float to the top and harden for easy removal. Wash the jar with soap and warm water and it is ready to recycle or reuse.

After Your Wax Melt Is Finished

The easiest option is to use reusable wax melt cups in your warmer — pop the remaining wax in and get the last of the fragrance from it before disposing.
