Soap Care Guide
A MAMO soap bar, looked after properly, will last a month or more. The enemy is not use — it is water sitting against the bar between uses.
Cold-process soap retains its natural glycerin, which is exactly what makes it so good for skin. It is also what makes it soften faster than a commercial bar if it stays wet. The fix is simple.
Keep It Dry Between Uses
This is the single most important thing. After each use, move the bar somewhere it can drain and dry fully. A bamboo soap rack or a dish with good drainage — anything that lifts the bar off a flat surface and lets air circulate underneath. Standing water is what turns a firm bar soft and shortens its life.
A sisal soap bag works the same way and doubles as a gentle exfoliator. Both are available in our accessories range.

Lather In Your Hands
Rather than rubbing the bar directly against your skin, work up a lather in your hands first and apply that. The bar lasts significantly longer this way and you get just as good a wash.
Keep It Out Of The Direct Stream
Do not leave the bar sitting under running water or in a puddle in the shower tray. A soap dish on the shelf rather than the floor of the shower makes a real difference.
Use The Last Bits
When the bar gets small, pop the remaining piece into a sisal bag and keep using it. Nothing goes to waste and the bag gives you a bit of extra lather and exfoliation at the end.
A Note On What You Might See
A white dusty layer can sometimes appear on the surface of a cold-process soap — this is called soda ash, a harmless natural reaction that can happen during curing. It does not affect the soap and rinses off with the first use.
If your soap develops an off smell over time, it has likely gone rancid — usually from being stored somewhere warm and damp. Store in a cool, dry spot and it will keep well.
